The much-awaited boat ramp at Newell Beach is now very much a reality and work is expected to start early next year.

The proposed $4 million two-lane boat ramp at Newell Beach has been on Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui’s priority list and this development will fulfil a commitment she made at the last election.

“This is great news for boaties as it makes this popular boat ramp a step closer to reality,” Ms Lui said.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government expects works on the boat ramp and fixed walkway will start after the wet season in March/April 2021 after the preloaded fill has compacted,” she said.

“After feedback from our community, the design for the new facility was changed to move the fixed walkway to the middle, with one boat ramp lane either side.

“We expect works to be completed in about six months – the projected completion date is November 2021.”

“It’s good to know that while we are using experts and professional engineers and designers, the ideas and opinions of local boaties have influenced the design elements that we will see when it’s complete,” she said.

“It will improve access and safety for local boaties and I know they are all looking forward to,” Ms Lui said.
