UPDATE:

The 59-year-old Sunshine Coast man, Ian Robertson, who was reported missing in bushland near Cooktown has been located safe and well overnight.

A search and rescue operation, involving police, SES and a helicopter, was launched after Mr Robertson’s black 2006 Ford Falcon utility was located on Battle Camp Road on Monday.

A police spokeswoman today confirmed he had been located safe and well.

"Thank you to everyone who assisted in helping to find him," the police spokesperson said.

Police hold concern for the welfare of a 59-year-old Sunshine Coast man who was reported missing in the Far North overnight.

A search operation is currently underway in the Cooktown area after Ian Robertson’s black 2006 Ford Falcon utility was located on Battle Camp Road around 2:00pm yesterday.

He was last seen four days ago taking what appeared to be camping gear out of the ute, which was parked near Battle Camp Road at the time.




A search has commenced involving police, State Emergency Services and a helicopter in the area where his vehicle was found.

Ian is described as Caucasian, around 170cm in height, with a proportionate build, dark brown hair and brown eyes.
