It’s been a jam-packed week at Port Douglas State School this week, from an expo to AFL, and even acrobatics. Scroll down to see all the action in photos.

On Wednesday night the school put on its annual Art and Learning Expo. 

Head of Curriculum, Sharmaine Garwood, said the expo created a fantastic opportunity for the school community to get together, albeit in a slightly different COVID safe environment than usual.

“The evening commenced with a dance performance by year five and six students, followed by parents and students going through displays of student art and learning projects undertaken both at school and during home-based learning. These displays showed what a talented bunch the Port Douglas State School children are,” she said.

Then on Thursday, Port Douglas students from years three to six participated in their first ever AFL Queensland Schools Cup.

“It was an intense day with the Port team winning all three games in their pool and going straight through to the Grand Final, where they lost to Edge Hill State School. Well done to all players for a wonderful effort,” Ms Garwood said.

On Friday morning students were fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at the "Gravity and Other Myths" performance that is playing at the Wonderland Under the Stars Festival in Port Douglas over the weekend.

“There were lots of ooohhhs and aaaarrrrhhhs and some comments from children about wanting to become circus performers.

“We did place a disclaimer on the performance, that it was presented by trained performers and stunts should not be performed at home or school.

“Next week we have our Colour Fun Run and District Gala Day to look forward to. What a great way to end the term, and start school holidays,” Ms Garwood said.
