Douglas golfers take honours at FNQ Champion of Champions

The 2020 FNQ Champion of Champions was held at Palmer Sea Reef on Sunday with golfers from around the Far North competing to decide who was the "best of the best".
Thirty-six golfers who won Club Champion at their respective clubs in the Far North teed off for the title.
Port Douglas resident and Palmer Sea Reef member, Jimmy Dormer, took out the A Grade win.
While the youngest competitor in her grade, 12-year-old Amelia Harris from Half Moon Bay Golf Club, took out the Ladies A Grade Champion of Champions and the Ladies’ Juniors Champion of Champions.
Mossman’s Jo Constantine also claimed honours coming out on top in the Ladies B Grade.

Emma Plant from Palmer Sea Reef said it was a successful day under clear skies and some added wind made for an extra challenge for the golfers.
“The wind on the day made it a little difficult, because of Palmer Sea Reefs 88 pot bunkers, if your ball picks up in the breeze and gets carried you can be in a bit of trouble, as some competitors found out, this is the challenge of the course with a true links feel,” she said.
This year is the first time the event, run by the FNQ District Ladies and FNQ District Men’s golf associations, has held the women’s and men’s champion of champions on the same day.
“This made for a great format and a lot of golfers being able to socialise from many different clubs,” Ms Plant said.
“Palmer Sea Reef is a breathtaking venue for these big club events as the wrap around veranda views allow you to see competitors teeing off the 1st, 10th and coming down to finish on the 18th which makes for a lively atmosphere for both golfers and spectators alike.”
