Dancing is back in the Douglas Shire with Bodies In Motion Dance School returning to the stage once again.

With dance classes only resuming in July thanks to COVID restrictions, students have spent the past seven weeks rehearsing and training hard to make up for the four months they had off over the isolation shutdown period.

Then finally, on Sunday 23 August, the schools’ competition team put on their first showcase, performing their routines to family and friends in Mossman.

On top of that, the team of 65 competitive dancers also travelled to Cairns over this past weekend to compete at their first Eisteddfod for 2020.

The school entered over 40 solo performance and seven group acts, walking away with an array of prizes.

Bodies In Motion Principal, Saskia Turner, said even though this year’s competitions and performances will look a little different to previous years, she is just grateful that her students still have the opportunity to perform on stage.

“We have had to make some adjustments to keep in line with COVID regulations, but at the end of the day it is all worth it seeing our dancers up on stage performing to an audience, even if it is a small one,” she said.

“Performing to an audience is such a huge aspect of dance and I know our students have missed the feeling of being on stage.

“Our kids had the best time performing over the past two weekends and I know it has really boosted their confidence and love of dance again.”

Staff and students of Bodies In Motion are now busy preparing for their end of year production. 

Ms Turner said she has a few exciting ideas up her sleeve to ensure they present another memorable show for the community in 2020.

“After the roller coaster year we have all had, it is my number one priority to ensure our students still get the opportunity to experience an end of year production in some shape or form,” Ms Turner said.
