The grand designs for a proposed $300 million luxury five-star resort have been unveiled with Port Douglas set to be the home of Australia’s first Fairmont hotel.

Melbourne-based developer Chiodo Corp has partnered with hotel brand, Accor Fairmont, who is set to be the operator of the 253 roomed Fairmont Port Douglas.

The developers hope to begin construction early next year at 71-85 Port Douglas Road on the former Havana resort project between Oaks Hotels and Resorts and the Mirage Country Club.

Plans for the resort include several restaurants and bars, a decadent day spa, a treetop walk and panoramic conference and wedding facilities, all designed around resort-style pools.

Chiodo Principal, Paul Chiodo said the nature-inspired design is set to blend sustainability, culture, nature, and luxury.

“Our vision is to deliver an environmental hotel that still encapsulates the hallmarks of a luxury hotel and Accor clearly shares the same passion that we have at Chiodo Corporation for Port Douglas itself,” Mr Chiodo said.

“We both share a love for Port Douglas and its community, and we will jointly push hard to bring Port Douglas the bling factor that it had 15 years ago, where world leaders go to play golf and Hollywood celebrities go for vacations.”

Chief Operating Officer of Accor Pacific, Simon McGrath, said they are excited to bring the Fairmont brand to Australia and “are confident that Fairmont Port Douglas will deliver a new level of luxury and sophistication to one of the country’s most glamorous resort towns.”

“Accor continues to expand its luxury offerings in Australia and, as our first Fairmont, this is going to be a truly special resort, whose architecture mimics the rich biosphere of the Daintree Rainforest and, which is centred on well-being, nature and cultural immersion,” he said.
