Clink Theatre to re-open its doors

Clink Theatre patrons have had to bear the brunt of the Coronavirus, but they will be delighted to learn that it will be re-opening its doors in November after a lengthy hiatus.
In what will be the first production since January, which featured The Wizard of Oz, the Douglas Theatre Arts Group (DTAG) will be staging Steel Magnolias from November 25-29.
DTAG president Michael Kerr said all Coronavirus restrictions would be implemented, but is delighted the Clink Theatre will soon be re-opening its doors.
“With the onset of Covid19 the theatre unfortunately came to a standstill. We have been working hard to ensure our Covidsafe plan is in order and we can attempt to get back to what we all enjoy doing: entertaining our community.
“Due to the size of the theatre we have had to initiate some very strict controls to be able to operate.
“Tickets will only be sold in rows to allow for social bubble groups. We appreciate that this will create some challenges for those couples or singles, but still make a night out with some friends to assist in accommodating the restrictions that we have on us,” said Kerr.
The DTAG had to cancel a number of performances because of the virus.
The following conditions must be observed and agreed to when purchasing tickets:
- When purchasing tickets, patrons agree to provide their contact details, including mobile phone number, email or residential address; and the contact phone number and residential address of accompanying ticket holders.
- These contact details, along with seating allocations, will be kept at the venue for 56 days from the day of the performance.
- Patrons acknowledge the venue may be required by law to provide contact information to public health officers on request.
- The Venue will not share this contact information with any third party other than the relevant health authority, and will not use the information for promotional purposes.
- Patrons must not attend if they have COVID-19 related symptoms, have been in close contact with a person who is COVID-19 positive, have travelled overseas or to a COVID-19 hotspot in the past 14 days or are COVID-19 positive.
- Patrons must not attend if they are required to self-isolate and the event falls within the isolation period.
- Patrons agree to abide by all social distancing and health protocols.
- Patrons agree to follow the instructions of venue staff at all times.
- If patrons do not comply with protocols or authorised requests when on the venue premises they may be asked to leave immediately without refund or further recourse.
- Refunds or exchange of tickets will be available to any customer who is required to self-isolate (due to being a confirmed case or is a close contact of a confirmed case) and the event falls within the isolation period.
- Seating will be allocated by the venue based on the size of the group, time of booking and venue configuration, to allow compliance with current social distancing requirements.
Steel Magnolias is a 1989 American comedy-drama film directed by Herbert Ross. It is a film adaptation of Robert Harling's 1987 play of the same name. The play and film are about the bond a group of women share in a small-town southern community, and how they cope with the death of one of their own.
The story is based on Robert Harling's real life experience of the death of his sister, Susan Harling Robinson, in 1985 due to complications from Type 1 diabetes. He changed his sister's name in the story from Susan to Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie.
The title suggests the main female characters can be both as delicate as the magnolia flower, and as tough as steel.
