Cash injection for Daintree residents will be welcomed

ELECTRICITY
Daintree residents have received a welcome injection to their electricity woes which has been a key issue for a considerable period of time.
The Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui, said Daintree residents would receive a similar payment to the Queensland Government’s electricity rebate after she made representations to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, Anthony Lynham.
"Households can expect to receive the payment in coming weeks," Ms Lui said.
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government initially introduced the one-off rebate as part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognised that families were doing it tough with some breadwinners losing their jobs at least temporarily,” she said.
She added the rebate was a way of giving households some breathing space during the pandemic -- $200 for each household and $500 for small to medium businesses that consume less than 100,000 kilowatt hours annually.
“The Daintree community is off the power grid and householders in the area did not receive the benefit.
“I received representations from several residents and businesses in the area.
“It seemed a shame to me that they should miss out, so I went to bat for them.
“Everyone has been impacted economically during the pandemic,” said Ms Lui.
