Crocs have fifth straight premiership in sight

A historic fifth straight premiership is in sight for the Port Douglas Crocs after another dominant display in the senior’s qualifying final in Cairns on Saturday night secured them a spot in the AFL Cairns grand final on 31 October.
The Crocs downed the Cairns Saints 124 points to 28 in an “absolute thumping” one-sided affair which has been the theme this year for the undefeated side.
The Crocs had six goals on the scoreboard before the Saints even had a point to their name.
“It was probably over at quarter time,” said Crocs President, Barry Lea.
Crocs’ payer Ben Johnson was the leading goalkicker for the Crocs with the likes of Adam Gross, Kye Chapple, and Kurt Bradshaw also getting scores on the board.
“The team now looks forward to a week’s rest before staking our claim on a fifth premiership in a row,” said Mr Lea.
“We will play the winners of the Saints versus Cutters game which is this weekend and we look forward to meeting them,” he said.
Crowds will be seeing double on grand final day with the Crocs Reserves team also landing a spot in the reserves premiership decider after dominating their qualifying final on the weekend.
The reserves defeated South Cairns 65 to 23 at Cazaly’s Stadium.
Mr Lea said it was fantastic to see both teams headed to the grand final.
“The strength and numbers of the reserves side has been a shining light this year.
“We have over 60 players training for a spot in either the seniors or reserves team. It will be extremely difficult for the selection panel to identity the top 44 players to play in the grand finals.
“There is a lot of hard work between now and then and if we can do all the one-percenters, we are fairly confident we can bring home another couple of premierships to the town,” Mr Lea said.
