Mossman tennis invites community to come and try

The first week back on the new and improved Mossman tennis courts has been a great success for the Mossman Squash and Tennis Club.

The courts were officially opened last weekend after a $150,000 upgrade to replace the court surface, add new lighting, fences, and covered seating, and improve drainage.

It was a busy week for the club, with Come and Try Sessions, teen girls’ tennis and fitness, children and adult coaching, and social tennis all kicking off.

The club is holding a second free come and try day on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November and is encouraging all ages and skill levels to come down and try out the new courts or simply get some information on what the club is offering.

The sessions run between 8:00am - 10:00am and 5:00 pm - 7:00pm both days.

Kylie Bruyn is hosting the teen girls’ sessions, which runs on Monday’s at 4.30pm, and says there are still a few spots left.

The four-week program sees girls aged 13-18 years learn and improve on their tennis skills followed by a strength and conditioning class.

“The teen girls group had a blast yesterday and said they couldn’t wait for next week,” she said.

Thanks to the new lighting, evening coaching and social tennis have also now kicked off in Mossman.

Social tennis is now on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm onwards. $5 members and $10 non-members, all levels welcome.

Club member, Peter Carrington said: “This is a fantastic facility for Mossman and surrounding districts and the new courts have been worth the wait.”
