Mossman will again be the venue for the Nativity Sheep Trail which will run from Monday 9 November to Monday 7 December.

The Mossman Uniting Church, together with local businesses, is organizing this special community Christmas event which attracts a lot of interest in the town.

“The idea behind this venture is to both connect with the community and to support our community’s local businesses, and to have lots of fun.

“The Nativity Sheep Trail is designed to bring people into local businesses and to share the Christmas story,” said Janelle Shrimpton, Nativity Sheep Trail Coordinator.

“The event was first run a few years ago but on a very small scale. Last year we expanded and advertised a lot more and it was both successful and well received.

This year we have had a couple of businesses miss out due to a limited number of sheep, proving that it has grown in popularity,” she said.

Participating stores will be given a cute little sheep to be displayed somewhere in their business; and each business will have the responsibility of naming their sheep with the name to be recorded on the sheep’s name tag.

“Each business will be provided with entry forms and a poster to display. The idea is for families and children to follow the trail; visit all the businesses listed; find all the sheep; collect the names of the sheep and record them on the entry form.

“A box at Bartolos Store in Sugarland Arcade will be provided for completed entry forms to be deposited. All entries that have the correct names will go into the draw to win a Family Christmas Gift Basket,” she said.

The winner will be drawn on Wednesday 9 December at the Night Markets, under the Raintrees in Mossman. If the winner is not present at the draw, they will be notified by phone.

She said to comply with COVID, it has been suggested that shops with restricted space place their sheep in the window where children can see it without having to enter the business.

“The feedback last year was very positive and many people fell in love with the cute sheep and wanted to buy them so we will have some for sale at the night markets this year.

“It is a wonderful community event that we hope continues every Christmas for a long time to come,” she said.
