The community is invited to join the Mayor's Christmas Luncheon at the iconic Salsa Bar & Grill on Thursday, 19 November, to help make a difference to those doing it tough in our community this Christmas.

Christmas can already be a tough time for many and this year more people than ever in the Douglas Shire are feeling the pinch after being hit economically hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Christmas Luncheon will add to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal in raising money for Christmas hampers which provide Christmas food and a little joy for those who really need it over the festive period.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the Luncheon is a great way to help support those in need whilst having a wonderful afternoon at Salsa immersed in the Christmas spirit.

“We are delighted to be working with Rhys and the team at Salsa to host our first Mayor’s Christmas lunch,” he said.

“I encourage you to get a group of family and friends together, jump on the booking page and buy your tickets to the event.

“We only have limited capacity, so I encourage you to get in early,” Mayor Kerr said.

Owner of Salsa Bar & Grill, Rhys Bawden, said the Salsa team is thrilled to be involved in the inaugural Mayor’s Christmas lunch.

“In a year that has seen so many families struggling we hope to be able to raise money to bring some hope back to some of these struggling families throughout our community,” he said.

“The Douglas Shire community is exceptional when it comes to helping others who are in need, this year let’s all put our hands together for this great appeal.”

Kicking off at 12:00pm, the Luncheon includes a four-course meal, live entertainment and a charity raffle.

Tickets to the luncheon are $80 per head and group bookings of 10 people to suit the table configuration are encouraged, however, all bookings are welcome, with smaller parties to be grouped together.

“If you are unable to join us for lunch, I do hope you can make a direct donation to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal via our website or in person at our collection points,” said Mayor Kerr.

“The money raised will go towards hampers to provide enough food and cheer for a decent Christmas breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as basic staples to ensure there is enough to go round over the Christmas period.”
