Marley Price-Schacher, a 20-year-old Port Douglas apprentice, has taken out the Plumbing Apprentice of the Year title for the second year in a row at the TAFE Queensland 2020 Cairns Trade Excellence Awards.

The annual awards, held on Friday, 30 October 2020 in Cairns, celebrated the Far North’s up and coming trade professionals, recognising the hard work and dedication of apprentices and trades students.

More than 70 nominations were submitted, and 12 award categories were announced at the ceremony, with the winners taking home 3D printed trophies and industry prizes.

Mr Price-Schacher who works at Geoff Ward Plumbing and Gas in Port Douglas said he was surprised to have received the award again.

“It's a good feeling knowing that not only my boss, but the TAFE teachers think highly of me,” Mr Price-Schacher said.

Mr Price-Schacher, who was able to access free apprenticeships for under 21s to complete his TAFE Queensland training, is looking forward to finishing his apprenticeship soon and becoming a fully-qualified plumber.

“It can be a full on job, you never where you're going each day and your jobs are always different, which makes the work enjoyable,” Mr Price-Schacher said.

He also urged others interested in a trade career to consider taking on an apprenticeship.

“Go for it and take advantage of the opportunities you get,” Mr Price-Schacher said.
