Queensland schools to move to “student free”

The Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has announced today that Queensland state schools will move to “student free” from Monday, 30 March in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.
However, schools will remain open until the end of term on 3 April to allow students of essential workers and vulnerable children to remain at school.
“Essential workers mean anyone who is currently in our workforce, it’s not just health workers, it’s not just emergency services workers, it's not just our police workers, it involves anyone who is in our workforce, including people who stack shelves at Coles and Woolworths and work in a whole different range of industry, that their students will still be allowed to go to school,” the Premier said.
Daycare centres and outside of school hours care will remain open, particularly for those essential workers.
Parents are reminded of the need to stay home as much as possible and adhere to self-isolation rules.
Education Minister, Grace Grace, said the student-free days next week will enable teachers to prepare for learning at home.
"This is unprecedented history, and unprecedented times,” she said.
"At the moment, parents can access learning materials via the new Learning At Home Resource Hub, available through the Department of Education website.
“Currently we have two weeks’ worth of learning available to students to use at home and that will be constantly updated for as long as necessary.
"Let me also give this very clear message to parents who will have their children at home. They should be learning from home next week. They should not be out and about in shopping centres.
"And if you have a grandparent who is unwell, who has one of those chronic conditions, you must not take your children to visit those grandparents. These are very clear messages,” Minister Grace said.
