Neighbourhood Centre celebrating women at luncheon

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The annual Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s International Women’s Day luncheon is on again tomorrow at Salsa Bar and Grill.
The luncheon is a celebration of Women’s strength, courage and diversity in the Douglas Shire and for 23 years has been an annual fundraiser for the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, which forms part of the Port Douglas Community Service Network.
Money raised from tickets to the luncheon will go to the Neighbourhood Centre’s emergency relief program which provides assistance for people in distress needing urgent help.
Organiser, Shona Barbour, said the event also provides an opportunity for women to come together, network, and support one another.
“On the day we have inspirational guest speakers, musical entertainment and there is also the $2000 cash raffle,” she said.
Tickets to the raffle are $20 each and only 200 tickets will be sold.
Funds raised from the raffle will this year be shared with Australia’s bushfire victims.
Raffle tickets are still available, contact Ms Barbour on 0407674135 to put yourself in the running.
Tomorrow's luncheon, however, is officially sold out.
“I was very pleased about selling out, it means there is such strong support for it.
The official International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March and is a day when all women are recognised for their achievements, as well as celebrating how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network and mobilise for meaningful change.
