Douglas libraries helping build connections
CORONAVIRUS
To assist residents through social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, Douglas Libraries has launched a dedicated Facebook page to build connections and serve up a suite of community services.
The Human and Community Recovery Group have started discussing ways to connect the community through Douglas Libraries following the closure of Mossman and Port Douglas libraries.
The libraries were closed last week in line with the Federal Government’s restrictions to slow the spread of Coronavirus.
Douglas Libraries Team Leader Deb Somersall said the library would re-focus its efforts to supporting the community through virtual means.
“We have an amazing range of audio books, music and magazines available to help bust the boredom,” she said.
“Douglas Libraries continues to evolve and will connect with our community anyway possible.
“One great way to stay connected is to sign up to our newsletter.”
The library recently extended borrowing limits to 40 items for eight weeks to help residents keep entertained through any COVID-19 isolation.
Council is also looking at ways to continue lending items without face-to-face contact.
Library staff are also considering offering online craft activities and story time sessions.
Customers who wish to keep updated about library facilities are encouraged to contact Douglas Libraries at libraries@douglas.qld.gov.au or 4099 9496, or sign up for their newsletter and follow the new Facebook page.
