Despite the cancellation of the 2020 Mossman Show, the show public holiday, scheduled for Monday 20 July, will still go ahead on the same date.

Douglas Shire residents are encouraged to make use of the long weekend by taking a backyard holiday, helping to support the local tourism industry doing it tough at the moment.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the Mossman Show long weekend was a perfect time to ‘Do It In Douglas’ and support local businesses.

“The Mossman Show is always a great event that brings the community together and with our local accommodation sector starting to open back up, I am saying let’s use this July long weekend to kick-start the recovery by booking a holiday in Douglas,” he said.

The push to holiday at home is in line Council’s Buy Douglas: Build Douglas campaign, which seeks to encourage people to spend their money at local businesses.

“There are plenty of amazing resorts, rainforest cabins, holiday homes and caravan parks to support during this time,” Mayor Kerr said.

“Our beautiful beaches and spectacular parks are also the perfect setting for local families to enjoy a day out and explore the region.”

The Mossman and District Show Society confirmed last month that the 2020 show would not go ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions.
