Community spirit shines in Koko’s kitchen

COMMUNITY

In what has been a tough couple of months for the community in Port Douglas the team at Koko’s Poolside Bar & Kitchen have dug deep to give back by running a complimentary community kitchen every Monday afternoon with support from local businesses and staff donations.
KoKo’s Poolside Bar & Kitchen at Peppers Beach Club in Port Douglas has been offering complimentary takeaway meals to anyone in the Port Douglas and surrounding area that has been affected in some way by COVID-19.
Meals created by Chef Julian Veenstra and are kept in theme with the Koko’s southeast Asian influence including soups, curries and noodle dishes.
Julian has generously donated his own time to run this fantastic cause whilst Koko’s is temporarily closed.
The team at Peppers Beach Club said: “The entire region has been impacted due to restrictions and we wanted to find the best way to show our support.”
“We have a great small community that come together and help each other out when things get tough like this,” said Robyn Buick, Operations Manager.
“We have been so lucky to have support from Simon George & Sons, Reward Hospitality, Channi at Sizzling Wheels, Oaks Kitchen and Keithea at Port Douglas Real Estate who have provided ingredients, cash donations and containers to make this possible.”
Peppers has also teamed up with the Mossman Youth Centre and any left-over meals from Monday are collected and distributed by Ash and the team across Port Douglas, Mossman and surrounds.
Due to recent Government announcements, Koko’s Poolside Bar & Kitchen will be running their last community kitchen on 15 Monday June between 4:00pm – 6:00pm whilst they prepare to open their Restaurant doors again around mid-July.
