The future of the Mossman Golf Club is again up in the air after the proposed operators voted against taking on the management of the club.

The Douglas Shire Council came to the aid of the struggling club earlier this week when Councillors unanimously voted to begin negotiations to purchase the land and lease out the Golf Club operations to the Mossman Bowls Club.

The Mossman Bowls Club had expressed interest in the lease, however, General Manager Kevin Rynne, said during a special meeting on Thursday, the Mossman Bowls Club committee voted against the move.

“The committee voted down the current proposal as presented by the Council Officers,” he said.

“However, discussions are ongoing.”

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said everything has been put on hold while Council attempts to renegotiate with the club and failing that, the decision to purchase the Golf Club would go back to Councillors.

“I’m disappointed, I thought it was the perfect situation, the Bowls Club would be a wonderful fit for the Golf Club,” he said.

“At this point, it hasn’t worked out.

“I am meeting with the Bowls Club next week to see if we can negotiate something else.

“Hopefully negotiations will fix it but if not, it will go back to the Councillors once a new model has been a formulated.”
