A large branch has broken from a tree in Macrossan Street in Port Douglas damaging two parked cars at around 2:15 this afternoon.

The branch fell across the road blocking access to one lane for around half an hour.

Queensland police were on scene and said, fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Emergency services blocked traffic as council crews quickly removed the branch. The road was re-opened at 2:40pm.

Staff from nearby shops reported hearing a cracking sound followed by a loud bang as the branch came down.
