A popular figure in the town, Kym Rowley, general manager of the Tin Shed (Douglas Community & Sports Club Inc.), has announced his retirement.

In his president’s report, Anthony Dickinson said Rowley “will be leaving us in July after more than 10 years at the helm.

“We would like to thank him for his outstanding leadership and diligence in turning the tide of this club back into a viable and well run organisation with a strong future.

“Even though there have been differing opinions, the management and committee have always found the appropriate way forward.”

Dickinson announced that Kyle Livingstone will move to the GM’s role in February.

Rowley said he was looking forward to retirement and playing golf, fishing and spending time with his wife.

“It has been a pleasure to be part of the community and I am particularly proud to have got the club to where it is today,” he said.

In a bid to make a contribution to the shire, Rowley ran unsuccessfully for a Councillor spot in the March local election.

The Tin Shed has a strong affinity with the history, culture and community of Port Douglas and the surrounding areas. Today, it steadfastly maintains its traditions of yesteryear with strong links to the marine activities of Port Douglas and the true spirit of the vibrant local community in this splendid natural heritage listed destination.

Over the years, the Tin Shed has grown to become one of the preferred social meeting places for locals and visitors from all around Australia and the world.
