The Click Theatre’s production of Steel Magnolias was a hit with audiences as local actors finally returned to the stage last weekend.

It was the first show back at the theatre since the COVID shut down and director Paul Bugeja believes it was the perfect choice of show with the community in need of a good laugh after a difficult year.

“The cast worked incredibly hard from the first reading we did back in late September right up until the final show,” he said.

“The energy and commitment was truly professional and everyone really embraced their character and commitment to telling the story, which was evidenced in how well the audience responded.”

When planning for the show began it was thought the theatre would only be able to hold a 50 per cent capacity crowd, however, at the last minute COVID-19 restrictions were eased, allowing for a full crowd.

“The Clink is such an important part of the community, so the cast was excited to be part of the first major show to open,” Mr Bugeja said.

What's next for the Clink?

Mr Bugeja said the cast is already gearing up ready to find their next project in the not too distant future, recently creating a script reading group to think about what’s next.

“And now that COVID restrictions have eased, the Clink will again be available for hire from outside companies as well, so as with previous years, expect a range of shows and performances in 2021,” he said.
