Enquiries surge for high-end properties in Port Douglas

Covid-19 has forced a change in thinking in the high-end property market and how and where we live is now a significant issue for buyers.

And according to Barbara Wolveridge, Director, Sotheby’s International Realty, Port Douglas continues to be an attractive place to invest.

Wolveridge says there are many reasons why Port Douglas is experiencing a surge in welcomed enquiries for high-end properties.

“How and where we live has become more important to our southern neighbours this year, due to lockdowns, folks working from home and the inability to travel overseas.

“As a result, many buyers are creating a lifestyle where they can share time between states and some have chosen to move here permanently,” she says.

The result is Port Douglas is seeing greater demand for good listings and despite Covid-19, Wolveridge’s recent sales have been between one and four million dollars.

“If we can’t spend money on overseas travel, why not spend it on home-life?

“Family has become more important to us; lifestyle at home is our priority. Port Douglas fits the bill perfectly; it’s a magnificent part of the world, perfect for creating family memories.”

Some Brisbane and Gold Coast buyers have just discovered Port Douglas for the first time this year too, so we have an unexpected hit upon a whole new market, says Wolveridge.

“There are also many property owners who have been waiting for a buoyant market to sell and as 2021 is predicted to be the best we have seen for many years, now is the time for them to capitalise.

“Developers have hit the go-button so we’ll have brand-new stock to sell; it’s going to be a very exciting year ahead.”

For many luxury buyers, a dream home is within reach, in fact, they might already own one, says Wolveridge.

“As homeowners adapt to remote work, it’s easier than ever to live full-time in vacation properties and locations once viewed as seasonal retreats. Demand is rising for real estate in second-home markets, as buyers seek year-round residences that also feel like an escape,” she says.

Wolveridge added that her Port Douglas office has been strengthened with the appointment of Caroline Yarr, a fully licensed Real Estate Agent with over 20 years’ experience selling premium real estate in Port Douglas
