A ‘social’ competition encouraging local amateur and professional photographers to share their love of the Port Douglas and Daintree region, has been launched.

Tara Bennett, chief executive officer of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree, said they were looking for iconic and adventurous imagery of Port Douglas, the Daintree and surrounds.

“We want images that showcase the true, natural and raw beauty of the region and people getting out amongst it.

“Hike a mountain? Snap it. Dive amongst coral gardens and fish? Send it in. Witness an epic sunrise or sunset? We’re all eyes,” she said.

Entries to the competition opened on August 22 and will close on October 6. Each week, a winning photo will be selected, which will then form the shortlist for the finalist vote at the end of the six-week period.

Weekly prizes up for grabs include accommodation, restaurant and experience vouchers. The overall winner, which will be announced on October 9, will take home a prize valued at $1100.

This includes three nights at Mandalay Luxury Apartments in a three-bedroom beach front apartment, plus a seafood platter and dessert tasting plate delivered to your room by Magic Mouthfuls Catering and Events.

Ms Bennett said the competition was open to all ages and skill levels, but entrants must live in the Port Douglas and Daintree region.

“At the moment, the opportunity for travel is limited, so we are encouraging locals to take advantage of this time at home exploring their backyard, while taking some great photos to submit into this competition,” she said.

To take part photographers must like the @visitportdouglasdaintree page and send in the photo via FB or Instagram with the tags #myportdouglas and #portdouglasdaintree.

Campaign dates:

  • August 22 – October 2 - 6 weekly themed winners
  • October 4 – October 8 - Finalist Vote
  • October 9 – Announcement of overall winner
