The Port Douglas Crocs AFL club will host the fifth annual Pink in the Tropics game on Saturday 8 August at home in the ‘Croc Pit.’

The match will raise money in support of local charity, Pink in the Tropics; a breast cancer support group which raises funds and awareness for women of the Far North region.

The Crocs will run out onto the field in pink and white guernseys to face off against the Cairns Saints who will also be donning pink in support.

The reserves kick off at 12:00pm followed by the senior’s game at 2:00pm.

Annie Richardson, director of Pink in the Tropics, said the annual fundraising event has continued to grow each year and while they were unable to hold the usually pregame fundraiser luncheon at Palmer Sea Reef due to COVID, she was extremely grateful for the football clubs continued support.

“I am so proud to see our boys running out in pink,” she said.

“The players, supporters, and community are so supportive, it is just humbling.

“There aren’t too many people who don’t know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, so the players and the club understand how important the cause is.”

Auctions and raffles will be held on the day with some awesome prizes up for grabs thanks to “very generous” local businesses. All funds will go to the Pink in the Tropics Breast Cancer Support Group.

“More importantly the day is about raising breast cancer awareness and the awareness that Pink in the Tropics is there to help anyone who has been diagnosed,” said Ms Richardson.

Crocs president Barry Lea said the club is extremely proud to be involved in such a day, supporting a “wonderful foundation”.

“We will be looking for a sea of pink and white on Saturday as we tackle one of our fiercest rivals, the Cairns Saints.

“Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support; all the players will be in pink and they are looking forward to it.

“A little birdie told me there may even be a couple of players wearing pink lipstick,” he joked.

Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs or picnic rugs as all supporters must be seated in line with current COVID restrictions.
