Cairns records first active COVID-19 case since May

A returned traveller in Cairns has tested positive for COVID-19 while in hotel quarantine, the first active case in the Far North since May.
Deputy Primer, Steven Miles, confirmed the case was one of two recorded in Queensland in the past 24 hours, in a press conference this morning.
“One is a Cairns resident who had returned from Papua New Guinea,” he said.
“They were in quarantine and are not of a concern in terms of local infection.”
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service said the person was tested while in hotel quarantine and they continue to be in isolation.
“Tropical Public Health Services are following up any contacts.”
The total cases to date in the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service region is 39, including the one active case.
Queensland’s second confirmed case today was a correctional services trainer in Brisbane.
There are currently 17 active cases in across Queensland and 1110 confirmed cases to date.
