COVID-19

Last updated:

The Douglas Shire will benefit this weekend from the latest health advice from the Queensland Government.

And come Saturday, get a takeaway or head to your local bakery because family picnics are back on in the shire with the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Douglas Shire Council will re-open public picnic tables and seating in line with the latest health advice from the State Government.

Rex Smeal Park car park will also be re-opened where social distancing advice needs to be followed.

A reminder that the picturesque Flagstaff Hill Walking Trail remains open.

Playgrounds, BBQ areas and exercise equipment remain closed until further notice.

The Douglas Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is urging residents to continue social distancing and keep public gatherings limited to household members.

Under the direction from the Chief Health Officer, a person who leaves their principal place of residence for a permitted purpose can be accompanied by no more than one person who is not a member of their household.

The Mossman Gorge section of the Daintree National Park will also remain closed to help in protecting the Mossman Gorge Community.

But there are three conditions that apply linked to the above:

  • Social distancing and hygiene must be maintained
  • You have to stay within 50km of home and
