If you’re looking for something to do to spice up life in isolation and entertain the kids while on school holidays then tune into the Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas’ live virtual tour at 10.00am today.

The Habitat has been bringing cuddly koalas, bouncing kangaroos, and an assortment of birds directly into viewer's homes through their weekly Facebook live streams.

Jeremy Lebeuf from the Wildlife Habitat said the park may be closed to visitors due to COVID-19 but the animals are still there.

“The animals are blissfully unaware that anything is going on and they are still cute, going about their business and we wanted to share that and spread a little bit of happiness,” he said.

The staff at the Habitat take viewers into the secret world of the animals, focusing on different ones each week while answering the audiences live questions.

“It’s a very interactive medium and people can experience the park on another level.

“The response has been really cool, it’s been going gangbusters with thousands of people checking it out, tuning in from all over Australia, and overseas like Hong Kong, Germany, UK, Canada, and the USA.

“People who have visited before and people who haven’t and are seeing it all for the first time,” he said.

Mr Lebeuf said home-schooling students have also been tuning and asking questions using the live streams as part of their education.

“It’s been really cool, the kids really think abstractly and ask some interesting questions.

“It’s great seeing people who are genuinely curious,” Mr Lebeuf said.

Check out the Wildlife Habitat’s live stream every Wednesday from 10:00am via their Facebook page.
