The third edition of the monthly community "Think Tank” meetings will be held this coming Saturday in Mossman.

The meetings have attracted some attention over the last few months with guest speakers sharing their perspectives on the current and future goals and aspirations of the region.

The meeting last month was attended by about 50 people and saw the Mossman CWA almost at capacity.

This month speakers include Mossman High School student and environmental advocate Caitlin Nulty, Douglas Shire CEO Mark Stoermer, and Douglas Shire Sustainability Group member and former Douglas Shire Mayor, Mike Berwick.

Ms Nulty will share her perspective on Climate Change and what it means to her and her generation.

Her address will focus on how Climate Change is going to shape our immediate future and how it is the younger generation that will be most affected.

Ms Nulty has been involved in the School’s Strike for Climate for the last two years, pioneered the ‘Straw no More’ movement in the area, and is a member of Great Barrier Reef Legacy’s volunteer team.

Mr Stoermer’s presentation will explain the Council's overall vision for the Shire as well as the individual plans for the three separate areas (Port Douglas, Mossman and Daintree).

He will also explain the structure of the Council in regards to decision-making processes to give attendees insight into local government processes and procedures.

Mr Berwick will share his knowledge about the Daintree Coast as an environmental, scientific, and cultural treasure.

He will also explain why it is important for the community to settle on a coherent vision for the Daintree.

The community meeting is open for all to attend and will run from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm on Saturday, 5 October, at the Mossman CWA Hall.
