The Douglas Shire’s animal rescue and refuge centre have held their annual Father’s Day raffle with a signed Cowboy’s Jersey as one of the major prizes.
The Paws and Claws Raffle saw hundreds of people enter this year and raised $1,300 for the centre’s upcoming renovations.
Peter and Vivienne Turner, a travelling couple from Tasmania, were the lucky winners of the sporting memorabilia.
They had travelled to Far North Queensland over a course of three months to visit friends in Julatten when they bought a raffle ticket on a whim.
Mr Turner said they were thrilled to win the 2019 Cowboys Signed Jersey.
“We have a fanatical Cowboys friend in Innisfail who we will surprise with the jersey as a gift when we call in there on our way back south,” he said.
Ann Ireland, from the Paws and Claws Fundraising Team, said the support from the community for the refuge is always touching.
“Thank you to all our sponsors and to everyone who bought tickets which raised $1,300 towards the extensive and expensive renovation work planned for our new Rescue Centre. Thank you all,” she said.
