The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will carry out geotechnical remedial works on Captain Cook Highway near Rex Lookout starting on 7 October.

The works will be carried out between 9.00am and 3.00pm until 12 October, weather permitting.
These works will improve safety by preventing loose rock material from falling onto the road surface at this location.

For the safety of workers and road users, changed traffic conditions will be in place while the works are carried out.

The highway will be reduced to single lane operation under the coordination of traffic controllers and traffic signals during working hours.

Minor speed reductions may be required outside these hours.

Road users should expect delays of up to ten minutes each day throughout the works to carry out scaling, cleaning and removal or large rocks.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place in the sections where works are being undertaken one week prior to work starting.

More information about road conditions across Queensland’s state-controlled road network is available via TMR’s 13 19 40 Traffic and Travel Information services.

If you require further information regarding these works, please do not hesitate to contact TMR by email cairns.office@tmr.qld.gov.au or via phone (07) 4045 7105.
