Police and the public are inviting to come together for National Police Remembrance Day (NPRD) on Friday to remember the police officers and staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

NPRD recognises the unique nature of police service and the dangers that police face in their daily pursuits.

Senior Constable Casandra Hill of Mossman Police said everyone is welcome to come to the service in Mossman to pay their respects to the fallen.

“It’s about paying our respects to those who have lost their lives and the list of remembered staff and officers goes all the way back from 1861 to 2017 statewide,” she said.

“It’s a time we all come together with the common interest of paying respects.”

Senior Constable Hill said NPRD is an important event for all police officers and members of the community as it keeps the job in perspective.

“For me, it’s a day to stop and reflect on those who came before me who have done their time with the police and paid the ultimate price for their service,” she said.

“It keeps you aware it can be dangerous job at times and you have to be careful.

“For the community, we have a lot of members of the public that do come to the event and it’s about them showing their respect to us that are serving and pay respect to those that have passed.”

Over the last 12 months, since last NPRD service, seven Queensland Police staff members and three officers have lost their lives across the state.

The Mossman/Port Douglas service is being held on Friday 27 September at St Augustine’s Catholic Church on Grogan St in Mossman from 10.00am.

Refreshments will be served on conclusion of the service at the RSL Hall, 28 Johnston Road, Mossman.
