New style for 2019 Douglas Business and Tourism Awards night
BUSINESS AND TOURISM
The 2019 Douglas Business and Tourism awards will have a different flavour for the awards presentation night.
Awards winners will be announced at a new Awards Reveal party in 2019 at Hemingway's at The Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina.
The news comes after organisers said they needed an alternative to the gala ticketed event at the Sheraton from time to time to ensure everyone can participate in the awards night.
Businesses had indicated when surveyed that the previous gala ticketed event would be tough to attend after a challenging year, said awards organiser Sam Cullen.
“We didn’t want to disappoint nor let a tough year beat us down so we have done our best to remodel an alternative event,” he said.
“‘Just have the after-party’ was a standout of the feedback we received after surveying attendees of previous award presentation nights.
“So the new format is trying to achieve this with a twist.”
According to Paula Macfarlane, Douglas Business and Tourism Awards Co-ordinator, this new format will keep things fresh for the awards.
“We love the Sheraton Grand and they have been the key partner for the success of the gala evening but this year, awards goers will enjoy something new,” she said.
“Sheraton Grand has remained the accommodation sponsor for this year and planning is underway for the gala event to return to Sheraton in future years.”
The Awards Reveal Night, as it's being called, will take place on Friday 6 December at Hemingways Brewery on the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina.
Over 10,000 votes have been received across all categories since voting opened with 70 per cent of votes being made by tourists and visitors and with well over a month of voting to go with.
The new voting process has been welcomed by seasoned awards participants and organisers thank the recently updated tourismportdouglas.com.au for supplying the new voting platform.
The new Awards Reveal night will work differently to the gala night of previous years with three major awards reveals taking place on the night to find the winners of the finalists announced on Newsport.com.au prior to the event.
Then, at the beginning of the new Awards Reveal Night, Winners and Runners Up will be announced for each category by a special reveal process. Both businesses will receive awards on the night.
A professional photographer and awards media wall will be available for celebration social media photos as per other years.
There is also a new element being introduced on the night that will give businesses and other attendees a new and lasting memory.
To celebrate the 10th annual awards programme, a first-ever Douglas Business and Tourism Community group photo will be taken by a professional drone photographer in front of the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina at sunset.
The photo will become an annual tradition and will be something the business community can be proud of.
“Working closely together is what makes our community strong. Don’t miss out on being part of the first-ever Douglas group photo,” said Mr Cullen.
