Jungle Surfing director speaks out after zip-lining death
TRAGIC ACCIDENT
Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours, where a man lost his life yesterday afternoon, has confirmed staff will comply and cooperate with a WorkSafe Queensland investigation.
Phoebe Kitto, a Director of Jungle Surfing, has offered her deepest sympathy to the families and friends of those affected by the tragic accident.
“It will be thoroughly investigated by Workplace Health & Safety, which will receive our full cooperation,” she said.
“We are offering counselling to staff and to our patrons.”
A Queensland Workplace Health and Safety spokesperson could not confirm the details of the incident, as the investigation is ongoing.
The 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after falling more than 10 metres from the Cape Tribulation tourist attraction.
A 48-year-old woman was also hurt during the incident suffering arm and shoulder injuries and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital.
This accident is the second serious incident to occur at Jungle Surfing in the last 15 years.
English tourist, Lucy Keen, suffered severe head injuries when she fell nearly 30 metres from the attraction in 2004.
In a show of solidarity with Jungle Surfing's management and staff, nearby accommodation business Heritage Lodge has extended condolences following yesterday's tragedy.
"Our thoughts and condolences go to all of the staff and patrons of Jungle Surfing and to that of the family and friends of the people affected by this tragedy," said Heritage Lodge owner Vicki Bidwell.
"If we can help in any way we are here."
