Great Barrier Reef tops the location bucket list for Australians

Despite a third of Australians revealing they have not visited the Great Barrier Reef, more than 70 per cent would recommend it to visitors.
Three in five also list it as the landmark of which they are most proud.
These findings are from research conducted by Rentalcarprotection.com.au which questioned 1,000 Australian residents about their attitudes towards the country’s famous landmarks revealing the top bucket list locations in Australia, and how many Aussies have visited them.
While the Great Barrier Reef was first, it was closely followed by the Sydney Opera House. Sixty six per cent would recommend this iconic building, and 63 per cent would point people in the direction of Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Australia’s top must-see locations, as recommended by locals, are listed below:

Ernesto Suarez of Rentalcarprotection.com.au says of the findings: “Results from our survey highlight that Australians are incredibly proud of their country and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend places to visitors, but not all of them have the opportunity to see it for them themselves.
“Being such a vast country, its important trips are well planned and cost-effective. Booking accommodation well in advance and using hire rental cars will put people in a good position to take on long journeys.
"Whether a tourist from overseas or an Australian resident, rental cars allow people to take on long journeys and see this beautiful country."
