It’s that time of year again and while it is not an official public holiday up here, Melbourne Cup certainly is still the race that stops the Douglas Shire.
Newsport has selected a list of some of the top spots to get your Melbourne Cup fix.
Hemingway’s Brewery Port Douglas
Melbourne Cup Lunch at Hemingway’s will feature a grazing lunch and canapes along with a three-hour drinks package of Hemingway’s finest drinks, including beer, wine and cocktails.
There will be live entertainment and prizes for best-dressed male and female and best fascinator.
The race will be televised on the big screen up in the air-conditioned Boat Room.
Tickets $99 per person.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas
If an air-conditioned venue is what you’re after then Melbourne Cup at the Sheraton’s Glade Pavilion will be sure to keep you cool.
A glass of Moet & Chandon will greet you on arrival, followed by a delicious buffet menu and four hours of free-flowing beverages.
There will be fashion off the field best-dressed awards, lucky prizes, Calcutta, sweepstakes, and of course all the live-action on the big screen.
Tickets $165 per person with $10 from every ticket donated to local charity KIND Inc.
Zinc Port Douglas
Melbourne Cup at Zinc will include welcome canapes and drinks, followed by a three-course lunch, matched with wines from Cloudy Bay New Zealand.
There will be prizes for best dressed, lucky door prizes, sweepstakes, multiple big screens to catch all the action and live music from 2.30pm.
Tickets $149.00 per person.
If it's sport it will be on at N17 Burger & Co, Port Douglas newest sports venue. With several large screens, a fabulous menu and bar supporting punters on every turn, it won't let you down.

Salsa Bar and Grill
Salsa’s annual Melbourne Cup day is a fundraiser for Pink in the Tropics breast cancer support group.
The day will feature raffles, a Calcutta, and auctions, with all funds going directly to Pink in the Tropics
This event has sold out.
Court House Hotel Port Douglas
The Courty’s Melbourne Cup celebrations will see the race shown on the big screens with TAB facilities, live music, cocktails, and cold beers on offer.
The Court House will also be running a Calcutta night on Monday from 4.00pm to support the PD outriggers.

Post Office Hotel Mossman
For a more laid back Melbourne Cup head to the PO in Mossman.
Always a popular spot for locals to sit around the bar or out in the beer garden and watch the Cup on the big screens.
Have a bet at the TAB and enjoy the live music, sweeps, and raffles.

Mossman Bowls Club
Melbourne Cup Luncheon at the Mossman Bowls Club includes a two-course cold buffet lunch and a complimentary drink on arrival.
This air-conditioned venue will have the race on the big screens, door prizes, raffles, auctions, sweeps, and a fashion parade with prizes for best dressed.
Tickets $25 per person with proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Cow Bay Hotel Daintree
For a Melbourne Cup north of the river, the Cow Bay Hotel is the place to be.
There will be a picnic lunch on offer which includes a complimentary drink.
There will also be sweeps, a best fascinator/hat competition, prizes and of course the big race.
