“Moving to the City was inspired by bands like The Cure and The Kooks, it deals with the loss of a past life as well as growth and a need to move forward with a new chapter,” he said.

The single also draws from personal experience after Mr Maguire moved from his small hometown to the big city of Melbourne to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music.

Growing up in Julatten, like many young boys Mr Maguire was more interested in dirt bike riding and football than music.

A chest surgery when he was 14, however, put a stop to these physical activities so his dad bought him an electric guitar and soon, he was hooked.

He began by playing around the Douglas area in a band called Canned Peaches, busking in the streets, and appearing on local radio, before heading south.

“After completing my music degree, I played in a variety of different bands with a lot of different artists and it was a great experience but ultimately I had to come back up to far North Queensland because look where we live, it is so much better up here,” he said.

Now residing in Cairns Mr Maguire said the inspiration for his music is diverse and could come from anywhere.

“It's a bit of a roller coaster my inspiration. I like to people-watch in cafes and see the things people do and the way they interact.”

He added while he also writes from personal experience, he doesn’t like to talk too much about himself in his music.

“I like to put a different subject in it, that way I think it enables others to get more involved in the music. Then they can have some ownership over it because as soon as that song leaves the speakers and hits their ears it's not my song anymore, it can be whatever they want it to be,” he said.

Looking to the future, Mr Maguire said he has a huge 2020 planned promoting the album including shows in Melbourne and Tasmania early in the new year.

“I'm getting great responses from all the radio stations from the single so now with the album release I'm just looking to promote it like crazy.

“I will be gigging all over the place either solo or with the band and new music videos are going to be coming in the next month or so after the release. I will also be on the summer music festival circuit coming up so keep an eye out,” he said.

Mr Maguire and his new band will showcase songs from the album tonight at Elixir Bar from 7:30pm supported by Port Douglas band Benny and The Clones and Cairns singer-songwriter Talitha Jae.

The gig will be recorded and available on Mr Maguire’s website after the show and the album will be on music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
