Hundreds booked for Friday’s end-of-year awards celebration

2019 Douglas Business and Tourism award organisers have promised an evening full of surprises at this year’s Mass Awards Reveal Evening.
The night will kick off with the region’s best sunset over the Mossman ranges from Hemingway’s Brewery.
Ali George from Catseye Productions will capture the crowd and this amazing moment by drone as the awards first ever Douglas business community photo. The photo will be taken right on 6:00pm so organisers are urging everyone to arrive by 5:45pm to be included.
Hemingway’s Brewery came on board this year when organisers decided to present an awards evening that enabled businesses to attend without buying a fully inclusive gala ticket.
Brewery Manager, Chris Barber, said they were delighted to be asked to host the 10th year, reflecting the awards inaugural event that was held just up the marina boardwalk, upstairs in the old FJ’s Nightclub and original Newsport office.
“We are very happy to offer Newsport and the awards team the keys to the brewery for the evening,” he said.
“We’ve attended some of the most amazing gala awards events at the Sheraton over the years and now are working very hard to bring this alternative mass reveal awards format to life with Sam Cullen and his team.”
With the help of Uptown Rentals, upstairs at Hemingway’s will be converted into an amazing cocktail bar featuring its own photo booth and made to mingle layout.
To celebrate the evening, Hemingway’s will offer happy hour prices until 7.00pm and a great value shareable awards menu for guests to purchase.
“We have a seafood station with buckets of prawns and half dozen oysters, a smoked meat station with pulled pork rolls, plenty of yummy brewery pizza’s and our friends at the Donut Shack will also be on site selling their amazing mini donut creations,” Mr Barber said.
Awards organisers have confirmed there are some quality ‘dress to impress’ prizes on offer with the best-dressed male and female to each win a night at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas.
This year a best-dressed business prize is on offer for the first time with the business winning a $3,000 advertising package from Star 102.7 FM and the Newsport Daily.
Organisers say dressed to impress will be judged on originality and vibrancy and that attendees should be reminded that not all of Hemingway’s Brewery will be air-conditioned.
2011 Hall of Fame Inductee, Gus Gardiner, joined by The Saxman will host and perform during the evening followed by DJ Bart playing everyone’s favourites into the night.
For $25 you will get you entry into the awards and includes a complimentary drink on arrival, a selection of nibbles and a raffle ticket entry for a 30-minute scenic flight for two with GBR Helicopters.
Tickets must be purchased online before 12.00pm Friday. Limited tickets will be available on the door for $30 between 5:45pm and 6pm.
