Fire services were called to a large vegetation fire in Craiglie near Milman Drive at around 1.00pm this afternoon.

QFES said four fire crews contained an accidental cane fire, reportedly flaring up after back burning.

The fire came close to houses and crossed the Captain Cook Highway before fire crews were able to extinguish it using fire breaks.

Large amounts of smoke caused a traffic hazard on the Highway causing Police to close the road in both directions.

The road has reopened and traffic is flowing.
