The Tin Shed is looking to change its name in October

With the major objective of reflecting ‘who they are’, the Port Douglas District Combined Clubs – or The Tin Shed – will be looking at a name change at their October annual general meeting.

And according to General Manager Kym Rowley, the name that will be sought is the “Douglas Community and Sports Club Inc.”

“The subject of what we are as a club has been raised a number of times. And for those who don’t know, we are a ‘not-for-profit sports club’.

“However, over the years the club lost its way and is now focusing on its objectives by seeking affiliations with other local sporting clubs, particularly junior clubs,” writes Mr Rowley in the May newsletter.

He adds that, more importantly, we are a club for the whole community which can be seen by large numbers of Douglas Shire residents as members.

“After lengthy discussions at numerous committee meetings, it is believed that our name should reflect who and what we are.

“Therefore, approval will be sought from the members at the next AGM to approve the name: Douglas Community and Sports Club Inc.,” said Rowley.

The Tin Shed, meanwhile, is making itself available to sporting clubs in the shire who would like to be part of the club.

In return, the clubs will benefit from financial support, opportunities to raise much-needed funds, administrative support, including grants submissions.
