An investigation has been launched into a break-in at the Live Life Pharmacy in Port Village in the early hours of this morning.

Police believe an unknown person or persons broke in by throwing a brick through the front doors of the shop between 2.00am and 3.00am this morning.

Live Life Port Douglas owner and pharmacist, Brad Reilly, said the thief or thieves knew what they were looking for.

“They were going for the drugs; we are still doing stocktake to find out exactly what’s missing,” he said. 

“We were lucky the place was not ransacked, they have just gone through the draws so nothing was damaged apart from the brick going through the door.

“We have cameras all over the shop and the police have the footage so hopefully whoever was behind this can be brought to justice.”

Mr Reilly said when he got the call about the break-in this morning he was hoping it was a false alarm.

“We are normally very lucky in Port Douglas and we don’t usually have this sort of thing happen, it’s not something we have ever had to deal with.”

Port Douglas Police Sergeant, Damien Meadows, said crimes like this are very unusual for the town. 

“This is the first time something like this has happened since I’ve been here,” he said.

The chemist is back open for business as of this morning and Mr Reilly praised his staff for keeping the business going.

“We back open right now. Once we got all the police stuff out of the way, the team here are amazing and we are back up and running,” Mr Reilly said.
