The Port Douglas State School conducted an early ANZAC Day Ceremony with special guests on Wednesday 24 April.

A special assembly was held at the school with family invited and guests including members of Douglas Shire Council, members of the Port Douglas Police Force and representatives from the local RSL.

The school choir sang songs of remembrance and the school leaders and guests delivered speeches to the crowd. 

Following the ceremony, school leaders said they were honoured to be involved in the ANZAC Day ceremony.

“It feels really good to have a chance to speak and to share our emotions,” said school captain Amber.

Kara, another school captain, said, “it’s great to have this privilege of standing up next to all these respected people.”

While all the school leaders where a little nervous during the ceremony, they found ways to cope and delivered moving speeches. 

“I just looked straight at my mum,” said school captain Grace

“It was also good to see it from a different perspective, last year we were sitting down with the other students and today we stood up in front of everyone, a really good experience.”
