Douglas Netball round five results and player awards

The 2019 Douglas netball season continued this week night with round five.
Round five saw the Young Guns continue to dominate division one, getting out to a strong lead early against Crocs 2 and holding it to the end, winning 44 – 14.
Impressive defensive skills saw Kate Padovan awarded best and fairest while players’ choice for best on court were Jasmine Kirk and Jemma McEwan.
In the Jets 1 versus Cougars match, the hard fought game saw the Cougars come out on top, taking off with the lead in the second half to win, 45 – 25.
Best and fairest went to Brianna Higgins while players’ choice were Nichelle Pitt and Ashleigh Blades
In division two, the Drifters went up against Jets 2 in what was an even game until the fourth quarter when the Jets took off to win 47 – 36.
Best and fairest went to Emma Pollock while players’ choice was Poppy Lawrence and Mercedes Ramsey.
The Crocs 2 took on the Young Diamonds in another hard fought game.
Despite missing players, the Crocs put up a tough fight keeping the game fairly even for the first three quarters. However in the final term the Diamonds speed and agility along with spectacular shooting form Ella Cairns saw them win, 46 – 32.
Best and fairest went to Hineida Shortland and players’ choice was Claire Deuble and Amelia Walker.
In the Junior competition the Miallo Allstars took on the Lightning Strikers coming out on top by five points to win, 16 – 11.
Best and fairest was Hayley Fischer who also received players’ choice along with Genevieve Dowling.
The Young Sapphires and Panthers match was a fast passed game that saw both teams come out hard from the start. The match was fairly even in the first quarter before the Panthers took off with the lead to win 30 – 14.
Best and fairest was Layla Hinz while players’ choice were Emma Brown and Niamh Zillfeisch.
Lastly, the Strikers versus Dynamite game was a close match that saw impressive shooting from Caitlin Nulty and Isabella Teasdale as well as great defensive skills displayed by both teams. In the end Dynamite were able to just get home with the win 24 – 20.
Best and fairest was Bayahn Aston-Dilan, who also received players’ choice along with Tahlia Barnes.
