UPDATE 4.30pm:

The woman captured on camera wading across a flooded Anichs Bridge has apologised for causing anyone to worry for her safety.

“I'm sorry if I caused any panic or worry to anyone but I wasn't in danger,” she said.

The woman, who asked not be named, said she let police know she was safe as soon as she knew someone had reported the incident.

She also said she wasn’t alone when she made the watery journey and was one of a group of people making their way across the flooded bridge at the time.

“There were several others that had also just walked through, as people always do when this bridge floods,” she said.

“Unfortunately, I was just captured on camera. It looks high but this part doesn't have much of a current or movement.

“The current in the river where people swim when not flooded has a much stronger current than this part.”

She said locals often walk over the bridge when the water rises as many of them feel they have no choice.

She also wanted to be clear she is not holding a child or baby in the image but a plastic bag.

EARLIER:

Images from the Douglas Dashboard’s flood cameras show a woman wading chest-deep in floodwaters at Anich’s Bridge earlier today.

The fate of the woman is unknown as the images were captured at about 1.20pm and a concerned resident has fears for the worst.

Ambulance Queensland, Mossman SES, and Queensland Fire and Rescue, said no emergency service was called in relation to the woman in the water.

Resident David Vivian, who captured the screenshots of the flood cameras, said he hopes the woman made it out of the water without incident.

“I’ve lived here a long time and I’ve been silly around floods in the past but not that silly,” he said.

“It’s just crazy to do something like that, one log or snag and you are gone.”

Mr Vivian said he was concerned as the woman was moving toward the deepest part of the river crossing when the cameras caught her where he believes the water would have been up to her neck.

“There’s very obvious strength of the river current shown by the give-way sign and flood marker,” he said.

“The person is heading out of Finlayvale and has crossed the deepest part of the crossing shown by the power pole next to the bridge.

“I hope they made it – to be honest I’d rather think they did, than hear some tragic news reported.”

Police are believed to have been contacted in relation to this incident but, as yet, have not been available for comment.

Remember: If it's flooded, forget it.

Call the SES on 13 25 00 for flood problems or Triple Zero in an emergency.
