Port Douglas mystery beer to be brewed for new festival
CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL
A collaborative beer crafted in Port Douglas with input from FNQ’s craft breweries will be the shining star of the region’s first ever Craft Beer Festival.
The inaugural Cairns Craft Beer Festival will take place in May at Hemingway’s Brewery in Cairns.
Brews from Hemingway’s Breweries Port Douglas and Cairns, Barrier Reef Brewing Co, Macalister’s Brewing Company, Coral Sea Brewing and Townsville Brewery will all be available at the festival.

A Festival brew collaboratively crafted by a representative brewer from each participating brewery will be made in Port Douglas specially for the festival.
Hemingway’s Breweries’ CEO and co-founder Tony Fyfe said the mystery beer is still taking shape but patrons to the festival can expect it to taste something truly unique to Far North Queensland.
“While we don’t know the exact components of what our Festival beer will comprise, we do know that it will reflect the region’s tropical climate and like all local brews, will have its own colourful story to tell,” he said.
Mr Fyfe is spearheading the festival and says the event will be the toast of the region.
“Our event really is an open invitation to anyone and everyone who wants to celebrate the industry’s meteoric rise, learn about the art of craft beer making from the experts and most importantly, have some fun,” he said.
“This is our chance, as brewing companies, to show off and share the benefits of craft beer as a beverage, which is not just grounded in taste, but that fresh is best.”
The first ever Cairns Craft Beer Festival will kick off from 12 noon on Saturday 11 May and run throughout the day until 8pm.
Entry is free with festival goers invited to sample the craft beers with either a 200 ml taster at $4 or a 425 ml sloop at $8.
Along with the brews, there will be a selection of food stations with food/beer pairings, beer appreciation tours, and entertainment.
The announcement of the new festival comes as Hemingway's Brewery received awards for a four of their beers at the Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show (RQFWS) Beer Awards earlier this week.
The team at Hemingway's walked away with two silver and two bronze medals for The Prospector, Tunnel 10, Pitchfork Betty’s and Doug’s Courage.
