UPDATE 11.55am:

The restoration timeframe on the power outage affecting residents in Mossman and surrounds is now 2.00pm.

There is another network fault which crews need to pinpoint before they can fix it.

In a statement, Ergon Energy apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience. 
 

EARLIER:

A power pole in Mossman was struck by lightning last night, leaving more than 1,000 households without power from shortly before 10.00pm.

A separate outage affecting almost 2,000 residents in Cooya Beach, Daintree, Miallo, Newell, Rocky Point, Whyanbeel and Wonga Beach was also recorded around the same time. 

Ergon Energy crews were able to gradually restore power to customers where it was safe to do so and by 3.00am, most households had power returned.

43 customers in Mossman remain without power and 463 customers cross the other locations are still in the dark.

Ergon assures customers crews are working to repair storm damage and restore the electricity supply to all customers by 11.00am.

A spokesperson for Ergon Energy said there are still dangers from damaged infrastructure and asked residents to be careful. 

"6500 lightning strikes were recorded within a 100km radius of Ergon Energy’s Mossman depot last night," the spokesperson said. 

“Ergon Energy is urging everyone to take care and stay line aware during storm season when there is a high risk of fallen power lines."
