Large vehicles will be barred from using the Daintree River Ferry between 9.00am and 11.30am today due to predicted flooding caused by king tides on the river.

As such, these vehicles will not be allowed on the ferry during this time but standard passenger vehicles are expected to be safe to cross.

The Daintree River at Daintree Village is currently at 5.10 metres and falling. Rivers levels are likely to exceed the moderate flood level (6.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday, dependent on rainfall.

The Douglas Local Disaster Management Group is urging motorists to take extreme caution when travelling on the roads with heavy rainfall likely to cause rapid river rises and localised flooding.

Road conditions will be updated via the Douglas Dashboard. A summary of current road closures and disruptions are as follows:

ROADS CLOSED:

  • Finlayvale Road at Finlayvale
  • Upper Daintree Road at Bloomfield
  • Bloomfield Road at Cape Tribulation
  • Ponzoo Road at Shannonvale
  • Whyanbeel Road at Whyanbeel

ROADS WITH LIMITED ACCESS AND HAZARDS:

  • Douglas Creek Road at Stewart Creek Valley
  • Mossman-Daintree Road at Rocky Point
  • Forest Creek Road at Forest Creek
  • Upper Daintree Road at Upper Daintree
