The Daintree Ferry contractors have advised that large vehicles will not be able to cross from 9.30am to 12 noon today due to flooding caused by king tides and heavy rainfall.

Long vehicles such as buses, camper vans, dog trailers and tandem tippers will be unable to use the loading/unloading ramps.

This is the second day in a row heavy rains have caused issues for the ferry with large vehicles unable to use the service yesterday morning as well.

As such, these vehicles will not be allowed on the ferry during this time but standard passenger vehicles are expected to be safe to cross.

The Daintree River at Daintree Village was at 6.40 metres and falling as of 7.00am. The river slightly exceed the moderate flood level of six metres overnight.

The Douglas Local Disaster Management Group is urging motorists to take extreme caution when travelling on the roads with heavy rainfall likely to cause rapid river rises and localised flooding.
