Salsa Sorensen community charity grants open for 2019

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING
Applications are now open for sporting groups, charities, and not-for-profits organisations in the region for funding from The Salsa Sorensen Association.
The Brian Sorensen Cup charity gold day began in 2009 after the passing of local legend Brian Sorensen. In his honour, wife Jenni wanted to establish a charity fundraising event.
After five years of fundraising, Mrs Sorensen felt she wanted to do more for the community so she approached Salsa Bar & Grill Directors, Rhys Bawden & Bill Conway, to help set up a local charity to enable the distribution of monies to groups in need throughout the Douglas Shire.
In 2014 the Salsa Sorensen Association Inc. was incorporated as a Queensland Association and is managed by a board of local directors.
Funding from $500 to $5000 is available through the program for organisations that are located in the Douglas Shire that fulfil the selection criteria.
Organisations that are non-political, meet regulatory requirements and include programs or activities that can clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the Douglas Shire Community will be considered for the funding.
Since it's inception, the Salsa Sorensen Association Incorporated has raised over $100,000 for local charities, clubs and groups in the Douglas Shire. Beneficiaries include but are not limited to:
- Meals on Wheels in Mossman
- Volunteer Coast Guard Port Douglas
- Paws & Claws Animal Refuge
- Port Douglas Junior Crocs AFL Team
- Port Douglas Tennis
- The Clink Theatre
- Port Douglas Raiders
- Douglas Soccer Club
- Port Douglas Crocs AFL
Application information and processes can be found on the Salsa Sorensen Association website.
