Preparation works for the Warner Street upgrades are set to begin next week with tree trimming and weed removal between Owen and Grant Streets.

The works are to prepare the street for new lighting and a footpath on the northern side (the side closest to Macrossan Street) and improved drainage on both sides of the street.

The entire scope of works does not require the removal of any Rosewood trees following community backlash over original plans to remove some of the trees.

The works will not impede access to businesses on either side of the street and Council will aim to minimise disruption as much as possible.

There will be two main activities occurring in the street over the next few weeks to prepare for major works.

Under the advice of Council’s arborist, Jim Scott, the Rosewood trees will be pruned of dead wood to assist with their health and reduce the occurrence of dead branches falling on the nature strip and/or road.

A few trees will be trimmed to both improve their health and reduce leaf production, without impacting amenity.

The second activity will be removing invasive weeds on the northern side of the street.

These weeds, including Singapore Daisy and Leucaena, could be inadvertently spread during construction of the pathway, so will be removed.

In instances where weeds have spread to private property, Council will liaise with property owners or their agent before work starts.

Preparation works are scheduled for Wednesday 19 June through to Friday 21 June with machinery starting no earlier than 7.00am and concluding at 4.00pm.

Work on the pathway, drainage, lighting, etc. will commence late July or early August this year.

Council is aiming for completion of the works prior to Christmas and will keep stakeholders apprised of planned activities on a regular basis.
